A logistics assistant supports the daily operations of a warehouse, distribution centre or healthcare facility. The role combines physical tasks such as order picking and goods receiving with administrative follow-up of inventory and transport. You are the indispensable link that ensures all logistics processes run smoothly.
Whether you work in a large warehouse, a hospital or a transport company: as a logistics assistant you are the right hand of the logistics manager. The job requires a combination of practical skills, responsibility and flexibility.
The duties of a logistics assistant are broad and vary by workplace. In a warehouse or distribution centre, you are often involved in:
If you work as a logistics assistant in the healthcare sector, additional specific duties apply: managing medical supplies and linen, preparing meals, moving beds and supporting patient transport.
For most logistics assistant positions, no specific diploma is required. Employers mainly look at your motivation and commitment. However, there are practical training programmes that increase your chances on the labour market. Through VDAB, for example, you can follow an EVC pathway to logistics assistant. This is a short, practical training in which you can also obtain a forklift certificate. In addition, private training centres offer the professional qualification. A logistics assistant care certificate is an advantage if you want to work in the healthcare sector.
The salary depends on the sector, your experience and the type of contract. On average, you can expect a gross monthly salary between €2000 and €2500. In healthcare, salaries are sometimes slightly higher, especially for irregular hours. As a flexi-jobber, you earn an attractive net hourly wage that can go up to €12 to €14 per hour. Also always check the fringe benefits: meal vouchers, eco vouchers and hospitalisation insurance are common in logistics roles.
Throughout Flanders, the demand for logistics assistants is high. The main sectors are:
